As I reported here recently, there is a war on AI girlfriends taking place, with AI companion bots already being blamed for a growth in the number of incels, as well as promoting ‘unrealistic standards’ among men for relationships. Naturally, it is a war on AI boyfriends rather than AI girlfriends, even though the former are also proving very popular with females. For example, at the leading NSFW AI companion community SpicyChatAI, there are twice as many (over 4,000) community-generated male chatbot characters as there are female. Just as ‘fan fiction’ is way more popular with females than it is with males, I have a suspicion that the same will play out with AI generated romantic and sexual companions. If that happens, we can be sure that the feminist criticism of AI girlfriends will largely vanish and botsexuals both male and female will breathe a sigh of relief. In the meantime, the heat is very much still on the AI companion industry, so I thought it might be valuable to come up with a few ideas promoting AI bot sex positivity, and outlining several ways in which NSFW chatbots can be a boon to humanity. This was inspired by a couple of sex-positive articles on sex and porntech that appeared last week.
Virtual Companions May Redefine Monogamy
Psychologist and sex tech writer Marianne Brandon Ph.D. opined in a piece published last week, that sex tech could soon come to redefine monogamy. Discussing principally VR porn, and the possibility of hooking up with avatars in VR, she makes the point that such fun could become so common in the future, as well as increasingly more real, that couples would no longer see it as cheating. It’s an interesting article, but her train of thought promises so much more. She is right to suppose that virtual romantic and sexual encounters will become normal, and perhaps quite soon in both VR and AR almost indistinguishable from the real thing. But rather than merely changing our definition of monogamy as it applies to the virtual world, isn’t it more likely that it will spark a more fundamental change in our attitudes towards monogamy as a moral value? It seems to me that Marianne Brandon has got it the wrong way round a little bit. As virtual encounters with AI girlfriends in virtual and augmented reality become more real, they will surely increasingly be seen as on the same moral footing as a real sexual encounter. But as these encounters become widespread and normal, surely the concept of monogamy as a code of sexual conduct will become ever more outdated? In my view, the growth of digisexuality will inevitably lead to a polyamorous society.
AI Chatbots Can Become Sex Therapists And Help Young Men Overcome Sexual Phobias
Rather than increasing the number of incels, NSFW AI chatbots could be used by young men to gain confidence in forming relationships with women. They can be used as roleplay partners to enable the socially anxious and those with sexual phobias to expose themselves to situations that would be deeply uncomfortable for them, or even impossible, in the real world.
According to Dr. Amy Marsh, a clinical sexologist : “Chatbot companion conversations are an opportunity to brush up on erotic communication skills with a nonjudgmental partner,” Marsh said, allowing you to explore your fantasy before you try it in reality.
David Lafortune, a Professor of sexology at the University of Quebec and Montreal, has already published academic papers examining the huge potential of both VR and AI chatbots to form a cheap, effective, and home-based therapy for patients suffering from sexual anxieties. In an article published online in 2021, he writes :
Treatment options for people with sexual aversion could include exposure to tailored and diverse sexual contexts — for example, rejection, intercourse, sexual communication, attempted assault — through VR. This could help to alleviate distress and support positive and rewarding erotic encounters in real-life settings.
Applications of VR in sex therapy will be profoundly shaped by advancements in artificial intelligence. Hence, using erobots (artificial erotic agents) in virtual interactive environments to simulate realistic romantic and erotic encounters, which are often avoided by sexually aversive people. Virtual agents could also be used to develop sexual skills, explore sexual preferences, and get reacquainted with one’s body and sexuality.
As VR can be used outside the therapist’s office, it could be included in self-treatment programs for sexual difficulties. With high-quality and affordable VR equipment entering the consumer market, future therapeutic VR protocols in sex therapy could be used in the comfort and privacy of one’s own home, promoting autonomy and improving access to treatment.

AI Sex Chatbots Can Be An Outlet For The Disabled And Those Suffering Sexual Persecution
Feminist anti-sexbot campaigners appear to be afraid that AI girlfriends will replace them, and hence want to ban them under the grounds that they ‘promote unhealthy standards’ and such. Not only is it unlikely that AI sex chatbots will ever ‘replace’ women, it is quite wicked to suggest that they should be banned simply because they can provide a substitute for a real person. Take for example the disabled, many thousands or even millions of whom find it impossible or impractical to form close emotional and sexual relationships with other people. Who in their right mind would want to prevent the disabled from having a realistic substitute in the form of a romantic AI companion? For that matter, why should it be a concern that genuine incels, most of whom have tried to form relationships with the opposite sex, without success, often due to the misfortune of having poor looks or short stature, have a substitute in the form of an AI girlfriend? Perhaps rather than a genuine fear that sexbots might ‘increase the number of incels’, it is more a visceral and instinctive dislike of the idea that the sexually unwanted might be given hope by new technology. And then there is the sexually persecuted, such as young homosexual men living in places like Iran or Ghana, where a real-world gay sex life could lead to imprisonment or even worse. Such discriminated and repressed communities could escape into the virtual world and seek an outlet for their sexuality with AI companions.
