According to the tool Google Trends, global search interest in AI porn has almost reached the level of VR porn, and looks set to overtake it in the coming months. What’s notable about the graph is that while search interest in AI porn did dip after the peak of the initial hype (and shock) regarding AI generated images and AI porn, interest has begun steadily climibing again.
I’ll confidently predict that this is a trend that is going to continue for some considerable time, and that in another 6 months, AI porn interest will have built up a solid lead over VR porn, perhaps enjoying twice or more the search interest of VR porn. Unlike VR porn, the AI porn market is not limited by the size of a product base market (the number of VR headsets). AI porn tools are available online to anybody with a connection, and as I predicted, their numbers are growing fast. And of course, AI porn images generated by others are everywhere to be found. The growth of interest in AI porn may be follow the same explosive trajectory of tube porn in 2007-2009.
Naturally, Google Trends isn’t an entirely accurate picture of the level of interest in a particular topic or thing. It just captures the number of people typing a word or phrase into the Google search bar. The graph above appears to show that people are no longer interested in ‘tube porn’, but that is obviously not true. Rather, it’s simply the case that people now go directly to PornHub, or whatever their favorite tube site is. Likewise, if you look at the graph trend for VR porn, you can see that it indicates that search interest has even declined since 2019. But is interest in VR porn really LESS than it was 4 years ago? I think that’s unlikely, given the far greater number of VR headsets in use, thanks to the success of the Quest 2. It’s likely more a case of people searching for VR porn on other places than Google, such as at Reddit, on forums, or even here. On top of this, AI porn is more of a ‘topic’ than VR porn is at the moment. So many people are not searching for AI porn images or tools, but to perhaps learn about AI porn, the future of the tech, and what it might mean for society.
Still, the trend is clear – AI porn is the new ‘next big thing’ for porn. Who knows where we will be in just one more year’s time, let alone five years down the road? As mentioned already, we can be sure that there will be more and more AI porn generating tools coming online. They will continue to get more and more sophisticated. AI porn video generators are likely only a year or two away. And by that time, we may even be seeing the first AI generated virtual reality porn videos…
