I’ve raised the question here before as to whether the standard of acting needs to be higher in VR porn than for conventional adult movies. This is because the whole point of VR porn is to create an illusion of taking part in sex for the viewer, or rather ‘experiencer’, not simply to enable him to fap off to recorded material as an observer. Recently an interesting Reddit thread came up at OculusNSFW asking for natural/relaxed VR porn movie scenes, to which I posted the following comment :

I think it clearly does, because the point of VR is to create the illusion that you’re part of the scene, so the suspension of disbelief bar is higher. I find most of the acting in VR porn to be so clearly fake, that studios should consider dispensing with storylines alltogether, as it often gets in the way of the reality illusion – bad acting is as much of a screen door effect in VR as low pixel resolution and the like.

Do we need acting for what is supposed to be ‘virtual sex’ between the viewer and the girl?
VR studios seem to be going for experienced porn actresses, under the assumption that such actresses will be better able to handle the unique and challenging demands of VR porn filming. This is true, but maybe another idea would be to simply cut out the scripts alltogether and even hire first time models. After all, the viewer is being asked to believe he is actually having sex with the girl – ‘virtual sex’ – so why do we need any acting at all? Czech VR Casting would work brilliantly if it wasn’t so fake and the actresses obviously seasoned pornstars (even in most cases experienced VR pornstars!). What we need is a VR version of Czech Casting or FTV Girls, where the ‘models’ are clearly often appearing in front of a (porn) camera for the first time in their lives.
