I recently asked the OculusNSFW subreddit their opinions on whether acting needs to be better in VR porn (because it’s more important to create a convincing illusion). I also suggested that if this wasn’t possible, more studios should think about shooting more natural scenes or even first time models. As you might expect, the standard of replies from Redditors was very high and some very interesting thoughts were shared. Here are some of them quoted below :
This is my biggest gripe with the “scenario” aspect of VR porn. The fantasy doesn’t work for a number of reasons- the main one being that it’s not just overacting, it’s not just bad acting- it’s bad overacting.
Wankz with their super long scenes are the worst offender IMO. They have decent tech and hot young talent, but they overdo everything. It’s bad.
It’s one thing to like sex, but it’s another when the moans are so loud, so persistent and so, so fake. I always imagine the director behind the camera going “More- louder- more moans, do more stupid fake noises- you’re doing great!”

I mean- “Hi I’m a porn star in a Wonder Woman outfit,” I can deal with. But “Oh no we have to beat a supervillain by fucking,” is just dumb.
I always felt that acting in porn or trying to make legitimate movies with fucking in them was just a throwback to the 70’s when there was still this pretense that porn was legit- that there was pressure to skirt censorship by making “legit” movies with fucking in them. In VR porn, the scenario is all about selling you on a premise that validates why the sex is taking place.
For me? I don’t need the fantasy. I don’t need to be the kid next door. Or the pizza guy. Or anything. I DON’T NEED THE SCENE TO ESTABLISH A REASON FOR WHY I’M HAVING SEX WHEN I AM GOING TO BE HAVING SEX.
Picture it- hand reaches out, knocks on the door. The door opens. “Hi, I’m Kayden Kross. Let’s have some fun.”
Then on to the action. Or let her talk, strip, dance, whatever. But for the love of god don’t give me “I’m glad you’re here to give me a piano lesson.” Especially if I’m filling up my hard drive with another Gigabyte of a dumb teen “actress” going on and on and on about whatever bullshit will justify why she bangs her piano teacher.
This is why I like the idea of the PSE Naughty America scenes, until you realize that you’re not really getting a scene with a porn star, you’re getting a scene with a porn star who is trying (and failing) to act like a porn star. Or overacting like a porn star.
I mean- wouldn’t the best way to direct a PSE scene be to just turn the camera on? Cinema verite, bitches.
I know people have different tastes. I’d bet dom stuff and other kinks play better in extended scenarios and that’s fine. But well shot VR sells the reality of the scene because the sex is real. The experience is real. Why do studios insist on getting in the way of that by introducing bad art? The sex *is* the art.
Short answer? Yes. VR probably requires a lot more from the girls in terms of performance, since the guys are pretty much a ghost avatar for the viewer and can do little to guide her. It does seem that experience matters — someone like Brandi Love or Bridgette B can effortlessly knock it out of the park, while the one scene I’ve seen of Kagney Linn Karter on MilfVr, who looked amazing in a bikini, but she seemed really unsure of herself and they repeatedly had to cut to coach her.
Genre matters too. VrCosplayX probably runs up against this more than most because the whole gimmick is girls pretending to be a specific character. Angel Wicky and Blondie Fesser really made me think Power Girl and Jessica Rabbit were in front of me, but a lot of them don’t really sell the part well enough to sustain my suspension of disbelief.
This has been brought up a million times before along with suggestions of how to fix it (casting porn, ama porn, no talking with music and striptease, etc) but nothing changes and will never change because the Hollywood porn industry is a drug abuse and suicide factory full of Harvey Weinstein styled degenerate scumbags living out their perverted fantasies, so ultimately it’s better to just avoid NaughtyAmerica, Wankz and VRHush altogether and go for sites that promotes girls with a trace of a soul.. VRLatina, MatureReality, CzechVR, RealityLovers, SexBabesVR, VirtualRealPorn, VRCosplayX and VirtualTaboo (and occassionally BadoinkVR) are all awesome and regularly features girls from countries where the sex industry isn’t so stigmatized that it only attracts the trailer trash crowd, so just let the American sites bleed out until they show some real effort to change and until then enjoy the alternatives, many of whom also use American girls now and then if that’s your thing. You can’t expect the girls to perform when they’re surrounded by creeps and misery. LA alone is enough to kill the human spirit ffs.
The girl in vr definitely needs to be a good actor. I would say VR is more difficult with having to be aware of so many extra things like distance, pose, were to look, etc.
I like to think that VR amplifies the effects of acting. If they are bad, it can ruin the scene much easier than 2d, but if they are good it’s amazing (see Elena Koshka). Everything is much more noticeable when it feels like they are right there with you.
I’ve only had my Go for a short time and have so far had two VR porn experiences, both featuring a girl named Uma Jolie on WankzVR. You look at your everyday 2D vanilla porn and expect a acting masterpiece you are of course mostly out of luck. You want actually good acting in porn then you have to imo look to some of the best POV stars in the business. The ones I speak about are those that have to act a actual fantasy where they have to convince you the viewer that you are in the fantasy with them. There you can talk about acting becomes essential and those that can do it are the ones that get success. Why? Because through acting alone they know how to engage you, catch your attention and get you immersed/believe you are there with them.

She can get you “the viewer” drawn into the scene – even in VR. Take a scene like “A Stiff Procedure” and watch how she turns a on paper absolutely ridiculous plot into something you feel part of. Sure the scene and the setting is not for everyone and neither is she anyone’s type but the acting is top notch and miles above many others. She is however not the only one that can do this, there are many others. Mistress T is however the only one that have appeared in VR – unfortunately only at HologirlVR. Anyway that’s type of talented actresses and story-driven scenes I personally would like to see more of in VR.
If VR just becomes “just another rinse and repeat scene” one after another where the only change is; new week new girl then my interest in VR would disappear immediately….. I might as well watch 2D porn then for that disconnected experience.
This is where I think language barriers are actually a GOOD thing. All of my favorite VR scenes are with girls who can’t speak English, or who speak it very badly. I can’t really tell if Lola Myluv is acting badly or not, because I can’t understand a damn thing she is saying.

I don’t think I’ve ever once thought “This acting sucks” or “This acting is great” when fapping. My judgment criteria is usually, “Does she look as hot in the video as she does in the thumbnail?”
