A new survey conducted by CCS Insight has found that a clear majority of VR headset users in the USA and the UK have watched virtual reality porn. While this itself might not be much of a surprise, what is interesting is that most of that 68% watch VR porn regularly, with 60% of VR users in general saying that they watched adult VR at least once a week. Another interesting statistic according to the survey is that over 50% of female VR headset users claim to be regular VR porn viewers too
When the Oculus Rift, the Samsung Gear VR, and other headsets came out around 5 years ago, there wasn’t much in the way of VR entertainment aside from porn. Already when the Oculus Rift consumer version appeared in 2015, there was VirtualRealPorn established and ready to serve them. Sites like Naughty America VR, BadoinkVR, WankzVR, and Virtual Taboo soon followed. At the time there were very few games and apps to compete with VR porn for a headset wearer’s attention. That’s all changed now, with many apps on the Oculus Quest generating millions of dollars in revenue. With the Virtual Desktop app, it’s also possible to even work in VR. Thus it’s perhaps surprising, but certainly encouraging, that VR users in 2021 still desire to get their regular does of smut!
Watching VR porn has never been easier, and that is perhaps why it is continuing to preserve its ‘market share’. Today, it’s not even necessary to download any app to view VR porn – you can simply browse to a web page that hosts adult VR videos, and then choose to view them in immersive VR. Now that the headset market appears to be taking off, we can expect far better games, and a whole host of new apps and use cases of virtual reality. The competition for VR porn will be sure to get ever steeper. At the same time, it is difficult to see how VR porn can keep pace in terms of improvement and bringing something new to the table. In recorded VR porn, you are still going to be stuck in the same place, experiencing scripted action, with the same quality of actresses, even if the resolution incrementally improves, and the general technical qualities of the filming gets better over time. The static nature of VR porn could change dramatically over the next few years, with an increase in live VR sex cams, VR porn games, and adult metaverses based on photo-realistic avatars, as well as the increasingly sophisticated use of accessible haptic sex toys, and perhaps eventually ‘sex suits’.
