Back in the early days of VR porn 5 or 6 years ago, one of the most notable and innovative of the first pay sites was HoloGirlsVR. In those days, most of the studios had not yet been stuck filming in rigid formulas, and were openly and eagerly trying to discover what worked in VR, and what their audiences were responding to. Yet HoloGirlsVR, or HoloFilm Productions as the studio behind the site was known, stood out for being particularly experimental. Their website design had something of a different look to it, and their videos, grouped in ‘collections’ such as GFE videos or upskirts, boasted a 220 VR FOV. Even their very name was somewhat forward looking. It was no surprise that they won the 2017 AVN award for most innovative VR site (nor a surprise when they filmed themselves at the ceremony in VR and released the video on their site!).
Alas, HoloFilm Productions is one of the studios from that early period that have not been able to stay the course. Although the VR market is now growing again due to the success of the Oculus Quest 2, it’s unlikely that they will be back as I learnt recently that their team appear to have gone their separate ways, not necessarily now even working in adult VR production. Their site is still up, although in a state of decay with images often not displaying and trailers unable to download. You can still apparently join the site, although by the look of disrepair I don’t have much faith that you could access the content. Having said that, I did promote the site back in the day as an affiliate, and the company still sends me the occasional payment, always on time whenever I reach the threshold (from rebills).
HoloFilmsVR Clip – Abella Danger In ‘All For You’
On the OculusNSFW subreddit, one VR porn fan gave his reasons as to why HoloGirlsVR will be missed.
I would love to have them make a comeback. Some of these are favorites I rewatch regardless of the crappy old quality.
Experimentation might be risky with today’s situation of large userbases “held” by subscription — where a single largely unpopular video can shake a lot of users free (or make them utter noises/threats of such).
But if a site had the user-expectation that you might only like 1/3 of the content — but you might really like it — it might get away with it. It’s like most sites are now pushing out videos to be “generally acceptable” to their userbase, but they probably also feel stuck in this situation.
HoloFilmProductions Lives On With Anna Lee And Exciting New Projects
On the same Reddit thread, the former director of production for HoloFilm Productions stated that he had left the adult industry entirely. However, Anna Lee, who served as the President of the company, commented to say that she is taking her pioneering direction forward in two exciting new adult VR projects that should come to fruition this year. You can visit her site 2049 Entertainment to stay tuned as to how they develop. Anna already has up one VR pay site – The Black Box Collection.
