VirtualReal, the oldest VR porn studio that is behind VirtualRealPorn (originally “OculusRealPorn”) and the only current gay VR porn site (VirtualRealGay) has launched it’s first 2D site – POV Gay. It’s a clever move, as with the VR headset market still showing sluggish growth, it opens up the general gay porn audience for their content at little extra cost (it appears to be the same VR POV (point-of-view) scenes from VirtualRealGay, but filmed/presented in 2D). Furthermore, with the much faster adoption of AR and smart glasses, which can increasingly convert 2D videos into 3D, POV scenes are ideal adult content to experience on them as I explained recently in relation to the XReal Pro One glasses.
Given that the gay community is famously tech savvy, with a higher than average disposable income, and known for being early adopters of cutting edge new tech-including porn tech, it’s long puzzled me why there is only one dedicated and currently updating VR gay porn site. Two others that have long stopped updating are VRBGay (from VR Bangers) and StudsVR.com. This contrasts sharply with the number of trans VR sites – of which there are six or seven, along with a number of independent studios who host their content on aggregator sites such as VRPorn.com. VRBTrans still updates weekly, whilst its “sister site” VRBGay stopped years ago (this is even more curious given that it’s widely believed that the vast majority of the audience for trans content is gay males). It was a different story in the days of stereo 3D content, with one of the pioneers being the legendary gay porn producer Dominc Ford. Many of the first 4K porn sites were also gay porn.
Making 2D versions of VR porn sites makes good economic sense for the studios and gay porn fans can hope that the likes of VR Bangers will follow suit with a 2D version of VRBGay, and perhaps enable them to start updating again. VirtualReal are not the first porn studio to deliver a 2D version of their site. TeenMegaWorld now have a 2D POV version of their TMWVR site. There is surely a huge cross over appeal for POV porn for VR fans, as essentially, the intention of both is to turn the viewer into more of a participant and to experience the sex the male actor is having, for himself. And at least with the 2D POV experience, the user is spared having to wear a bulky headset.
