WMDoll is the leading Chinese manufacturer of realistic sex dolls, and slowly developing them into what may before long be bonafide sex robots. They are still at the ‘smart doll’ stage, however, with rudimentary speech and moans that can be activated when sensitive spots are touched during love making. But with the breakthroughs in generative AI, including recent advances by Chinese company DeepSeek enabling costs to be reduced, has meant that the dolls are now being fitted with more sophisticated conversational abilities. Interestingly, existing dolls can feature the new AI speech feature, as it can be fitted into a bracelet or other accessory that the doll can wear. ‘Jinsan’, the Chinese company behind the WMDolls brand, calls the AI accessory ‘MetaBox‘.
A video demonstrating the MetaBox as used on a sex doll may come across as disappointing. As the AI MetaBox is worn by the doll, the doll doesn’t move its lips whilst talking.
However, as the video below posted at the South China Express details, WMDoll are working on ‘sex robots’ that are capable of facial expressions, and even that can embrace their owner.
Realistic sex dolls were already a thriving industry in China, and providing for a worldwide market, but WMDoll believe that the introduction of MetaBox could see sales rise a further 30% this year.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk went on the Joe Rogan podcast again recently and declared that sex robots would start arriving within five years.
When you add the incredible advance showcased only last week in conversational AI by Sesame AI (men are already falling in love with Maya), to the equally stunning and rapid advances in humanoid robots, then it’s clear we’re not so far off now from a world in which many men will be choosing androids over women. As futurologist Ian Pearson predicts, it might be some years before actual specifically designed ‘sex robots’ are in homes, but sooner than that, men (and likely women too) will be falling in love with their humanoid house assistants, and dreaming up ingenious ways to get physical with them.
