Last June I reported on the ‘Orifice AI’ project – a high-tech interactive male masturbator that the developers openly proclaim as the end of real women. Marketing for the Orifice is unashamedly ‘red pill’ and aimed at the ‘manosphere’ and incels, with slogans such as ‘Now we get to swipe left’. This is pretty remarkable given that the sex tech industry is almost entirely liberal and ‘progressive’. In fact, I’m probably one of the very few sex tech writers who doesn’t feel the need to declare their pronouns. I’m certainly the only one I know who blogs from an unashamedly male perspective.
Well, you might expect the Orifice project to have been buried under a backlash of progressive hate by now, but it appears to still be going strong. It recently won a $1000 prize given by Eliza Labs – the company behind elizaOS, to the first person who could enable physical sex with an AI chatbot. ElizaOS is an open source framework which allows users to create autonomous AI agents (which are expected by many to become the big AI trend of 2025). Only last week Eliza labs announced they were developing a very feminine robotic body for Eliza and that although it was not designed for sex, it would be seeking to make an artificial vagina for it. Hence the reason, presumably, for this cash prize challenge that the makers of the Orifice have won.
In an illuminating interview with Decrytp magazine, one of the brothers behind the Orifice gave some of his thoughts on how his masturbator could not only cure male loneliness, but somewhat counter-intuitively, reverse the declining birthrate that many (including Elon Musk) see as a threat to Western civilization.
He anticipates that skeptics might argue this wouldn’t solve loneliness, only exacerbating it as users get addicted to having sex with robots rather than connecting with real humans.
But that’s the point, said Bryan.
“Solving male loneliness could also be done through replacing women,” Bryan said. “The theory is that [women] will be more likely to want to have kids, because now that’s where the value will come back to if non-reproductive sex has no value in the sexual marketplace; because the risks and costs with a human woman are significantly higher than a sex robot.”
Bryan envisions a future in which non-reproductive sex happens primarily with robots, which he believes will lead to human sexual relationships to be relegated to just the engine that drives population growth. He says that sex being turned into an act of pleasure has done “significant harm,” since he believes society is not built for that.
It’s an ingenious idea, but I’m not sure at first glance if it is convincing even from a ‘red pill’ perspective. If we accept the ‘beta bucks and alpha fucks’ red pill view of female mating strategies, then surely sex robots will mean the beta bucks providers dropping out of the dating market, and leaving the alpha male chads to scoop up all the real sex with no intention of committing or starting families. However, it’s still the most interesting and original take I’ve yet read on the possible future social impact of sex robots and virtual girlfriends.
