Top VR Porn aggregator site SexLikeReal have revealed the most popular VR headsets for viewing their thousands of videos on, including early comparisons between this year and 2022 and 2021. The stats can be seen in the image below.
I expect these figures are pretty much representative of the VR porn viewing market as a whole, although given the premium pricing of SexLikeReal, it perhaps attracts a more hardcore and tech savvy membership, in which case the more expensive headsets may be slightly over represented. The main takeaway is that despite the Oculus/Meta Quest 2 now being over two years old, it is still by far the most popular headset to view VR porn on, with its share actually increasing (thus far) in 2023 to 65% – up from 62.1% in 2022 and 47% in 2023 respectively. In total, over 83% of SLR members accessed their VR porn through a Meta (formerly Oculus) headset. The only two non-Meta headsets to make any real impression are the two aging tethered PC headsets, the Valve Index (4.8%) and the HTC Vive (2.8%), as well as the slightly newer (2021) HP Reverb G2 (2.7%). However, one other non-Meta headset is notable, and that is the Pico 4. Although it’s 1.4% share may be tiny, it has only been on sale since October, and only in European and Asian markets.
The relative success of the Pico 4 headset might be an indication that there are a number of VR porn fans seeking an alternative to Meta, or it may simply be that they were attracted to the lighter weight and sharper display. If the latter, then it actually bodes well for the Meta Quest 3, which will be launched in October of this year, and is expected to be not only lighter and higher resolution than the Quest 2, but considerably faster. As might be expected given its initial high price tag, the Meta Quest Pro barely registers at just 0.1%, although it will be interesting to see if that changes with the recent drop to just $1,100, which is the same as the forthcoming HTC Vive XR Elite.
