XREAL Releases ‘1 Pro+’ Flagship AR Glasses

XREAL 1 Pro + AR glasses

Leading AR glasses manufacturer XREAL announced an update to its flagship product, the One Pro. Called the XREAL 1 Pro+, the new glasses offer only minor spec improvements and retail for the same price as the original ($699 in the USA). However, there is one upgrade that immersive porn fans will appreciate, and that is the 2D to 3D video conversion plays at 60fps instead of 30fps.

I bought the XREAL One Pro last year, and as I live outside the USA, had to pay more than Americans did for it. I have to be honest and say that I haven’t used it nearly as much as I thought I would. I still prefer to watch movies with my Meta Quest 3 headset, although as the XREAL glasses are so much lighter, I sometimes take them with me when I am travelling. The main reason I splashed out on them last year was to test them out for you guys as a pair of porn glasses. And I did honestly find them very good for watching porn in whilst masturbating. Although they cannot really play VR porn, they are simply way more comfortable to masturbate in, and they do have a killer feature of being able to render any 2D video into 3D in real time. This feature works really well, turning any 2D porn video into something that appears as 3D as most of the stereo 3D porn that was around back in the late 2000s. With the upgrade to 60fps on the Pro+, 3D rendered video should look even more fluid.

Despite the improvement in the 2D to 3D capability, and upgrades in picture brightness and dimming, I wouldn’t recommend that you buy the One Pro+. Over the next six months or so, there will be several attractive alternatives that will be able to do so much more. Despite being billed as AR glasses, you need to buy a rather expensive attachment to the Pro One in order to give yourself 6DoF. XREAL themselves are expected to release new flgaship AR glasses any day now. Called the XREAL Aura, the glasses will come with not only 6DoF out of the box, but also the AndroidXR operating system. That means it will support WebXR, and the volumetric 6DoF scenes of BraindanceVR. The XREAL Aura is expected to retail at around $1,500, however.

The other alternative that any high-tech porn fan must consider are the Meta VR Glasses that were recently announced and which are expected to start selling next spring at around $1,300. These will be around the same weight as the XREAL Aura, with a greater FOV. The big advantage, of course, is that they will play every VR porn movie out there. Although the Meta VR Glasses will still have a relatively limited FOV of only 70 degrees, this shouldn’t matter too much if you enjoy watching VR porn in passthrough mode, and the color passthrough of the new Meta glasses is superior to even the Quest 3. Still, the Meta VR Glasses are not true AR glasses, unlike the XREAL Aura, although given the dearth of true AR porn experiences at the moment, you might consider that it doesn’t matter greatly. An interesting and rather technical discussion of the strengths of the Aura and the Meta glasses can be found here on Reddit.

There is also the possibility that the Meta Quest 4 will come out next year, most likely, if it does, at the Meta Connect conference in September. However, this is very uncertain, especially given the release of the Meta VR Glasses in the spring.
