Earlier in the summer, a company called Blackmagic Design released their state-of-the-art new ’16K VR’ camera. Titled the URSA Cine Immersive, the $30K camera was specifically designed to shoot 8K VR180 footage for the Apple Immersive Video format, and quickly got fans of VR media excited – especially VR porn fans lucky enough to own an Apple Vision Pro headset. With that headset recently equipped with a powerful upgrade, the news that the first VR porn site filmed entirely with the new camera feels very timely. Babelicious.com is an amateur girl style glamour VR site, made by the same studio as the established VR StripzVR, which also features softcore glamour VR videos.
In virtual reality, the two lenses mean that the resolution is halved, so a ’16K’ camera results in 8K video. Whilst many of the leading adult VR pay sites boast ‘8K’ resolution, no VR headset currently on the market can really display that resolution in all its glorious detail, although the issue is complicated by the fact that, in VR, FOV has to be taken into account, and that each lens is not a rectangular screen like ultra-hd TV screens are. It has been claimed, for example, that despite having less pixels per eye than the (original) Vision Pro, the Meta Quest 3 has a higher effective resolution. The upgraded Apple Vision Pro equipped with the M5 chip has, Apple say, 10% more pixel resolution than before.
Whilst no current headset can likely get the most out of 8K video, filming at this resolution does future proof the archives of these sites. Along with that, the state-of-the-art camera likely has other advantages than just the high-resolution. The owner of the Babelicious/StripzVR sites posted on Reddit that he has so far shot 16 new immersive VR180 scenes with the next-generation camera, all of which will be posted on Babelicious. Members of either site get access to the content of the other, but it seems that StripzVR will no longer be updating. And regarding the specially shot videos for Apple Vision Pro, he had this to say:
Babelicious offers dedicated Apple Vision Pro versions of each video – extremely high resolution, 90fps, and very expensive to produce and store (about 8 TB for 2 hours RAW).
Members from StripzVR will see these listed, but:
- They are not included in standard membership
- They require an upgrade due to the production cost
- Quest and Meta versions are still included as normal
A standard yearly membership of Babelicious costs $119.95, but to access the Apple Vision Pro videos, the price goes up to $199.95. There are also monthly and quarterly membership options.
