Male sex toy company ‘Fleshy’ have put out a press release to announce a forthcoming new webcam site that will ‘revolutionize the adult industry’. Best known for the popular and well-reviewed blowjob toy the Fleshy Pro, they intend to launch ‘Eromate’ as the world’s first interactive and bidirectional webcam site, allowing true virtual sex between the viewer and the cam performer.
Exciting though this is, we’ve heard it all before. AEBN’s revolutionary RealTouch device, launched in 2009 and was marketed as the first virtual sex machine, synching not only with porn videos (the very first to do so), but promising real-time remote sex between long-distance lovers. AEBN had intended to build a virtual sex community, but the technology wasn’t there yet, and they were also stymied by patent trolls. The RealTouch was sadly abandoned in 2014.
Announcing the news of the demise of the RealTouch in 2014, I consoled my devasted readers with the hope that the fledgling haptic sex toy company Kiiroo could carry the torch of virtual sex forward. Indeed, Kiiroo also promised remote sex between lovers, and it too aspired to build a global virtual hookup community. Alas, ten years later, and although companies like Kiiroo are still advertising remote interactive sex using haptic dildos and masturbation sleeve toys paired with each other, look closer and it appears to be nothing really more than one-directional control of either through the use of a smartphone app. Great though that is, it’s not the true virtual sex that we were promised back in 2009 with the RealTouch, and then again in 2014 by Kiiroo and a growing number of other sex tech brands.
So it remains to be seen whether Eromate will live up to its promise and deliver true real-time bidirectional virtual sex. One interesting thing stated on their press release is that the ability of bidirectional interaction with the webcam performers will not be limited to the companies own Flushy sex toys, but from a range of the leading sex tech companies.
