An adult AR sex game developer has posted on Reddit what is surely the first Meta Quest Pro (Project Cambria) passthrough porn demo – and it looks rather impressive.
I’m not so much impressed by the realism of the cgi generated girls. Remember, this is just the work of a solo creater using a developer kit such as Virt-A-Mate. What’s exciting is the potential it hints at. Most strikingly, the ‘anchoring’ of the girls into the home environment is accurate and relistic (this is obscured somewhat by the crudeness of the animation), and they appear to stand, sit, or kneel on the surfaces they are placed on (you can move them about with your Quest controllers).
Next year, there will almost certainly be far more VR headsets with high-resolution color pass through sold, than the total number of VR headsets sold this year. Now that the low cost standalone headset Pico 4 has been revealed, and shown to have high-resolution color passthrough, it’s certain to be a standard feature of any new VR headset (not including the Sony PSVR 2). The Pico 4 hits the market next month, along with the more expensive Meta Quest Pro. During the course of next year, we are likely to see the Valve Deckard standalone headset, the mythical Apple VR/AR headset, as well as the Quest 3 and likely the Pico 5. All of these will have high-resolution color passthrough, with each company trying to become early leaders in the race to dominate the ‘AR glasses’ market, which is envisioned to become many times bigger than even VR, and to ultimately replace the smartphone, PC, and TV. Arguably, the potential size of the augmented reality porn market similarly dwarfs that of VR porn. And it could already have exceeded it by the end of next year.
